This example was struck at the San Francisco branch of the U.S. Mint on the standard 90% pure silver round that contains .7734 oz. actual silver weight. The mintage was 9,110,000 coins.

The Timeless Face of Liberty

The obverse image used on the coin is the portrait of Liberty, as modeled by Miss Anna W. Williams, a school teacher who dismissed this remarkable fact later in her life as "an incident from my youth." She is shown wearing a small crown with agricultural elements which reflected the agrarian American Economy of the 19th Century. The reverse features a Bald Eagle gripping arrows and an olive branch. The coin was designed by English immigrant George T. Morgan as his first assignment for the U.S. Mint.
