Why Make This Mint State 63 1879-O Morgan Dollar the Next Addition to Your Collection?
The first Morgan silver dollars were struck by the US Mint in 1878. This coin was minted in New Orleans in 1879. Like other classic US silver dollars, this one is 90% silver and 10% copper. Mintage of this coin was a bit low, there were only 2,887,000 of them issued. The scarcity of this coin in high grades is reflected in its value.
Stunning Designs by Morgan
This coin gets its name from the man who created the designs, George T. Morgan. The obverse features his depiction of Liberty. This side is also where the date can be found.
The "O" Mint mark is located on the reverse, just above the face value. This side shows Morgan's bald eagle design. The eagle is pictured with a bundle of arrows and an olive branch.
Certified Mint State 63 by PCGS
When this coin was submitted to the Professional Coin Grading Service (PCGS), it received the grade of Mint State 63. That means this specimen is in uncirculated condition. All of its original details are still clearly visible. The imperfections on this coin were mainly left by the way silver dollars were stored and transported in the late 1800s.
