Morgan, who went onto become the Mint's seventh Chief Engraver in 1917. Sensational Patriotic Imagery
The left facing image of Lady Liberty is depicted on the obverse, her curling tresses held in place by a "LIBERTY" inscribed headband. She wears a Phrygian cap, symbolic of the pursuit of freedom, and an assortment of leaves and blooms to represent the significance of agriculture to the strength of the nation. "E PLURIBUS UNUM," "1879" and thirteen stars surround the portrait.
The reverse features an eagle holding an olive branch and three arrows, with a laurel wreath curving below. The design is encircled by the inscriptions "UNITED STATES OF AMERICA" and "ONE DOLLAR," with the motto "IN GOD WE TRUST" located between the eagle's outstretched wings.
