In 1879, the U.S. Mint began its second year of production of the Morgan Silver Dollar series. The series is named for its designer George T. Morgan, an assistant engraver at the time, who became the Mint's 7th Chief Engraver in 1917. The series was produced for a total of twenty-eight years, at five different Mints, resulting in a staggering ninety-six unique date and Mint mark combinations.

Magnificent Patriotic Design
Obverse: The obverse is graced with a female personification of Liberty wearing a Phrygian cap, a symbol for the pursuit of Liberty. An array of oak leaves, wheat grains and cotton blossoms adorn the cap, above the "LIBERTY" inscribed headband. "E PLURIBUS UNUM," "1879" and thirteen stars encircle the portrait.
Reverse: An eagle holding an olive branch and three arrows is centered on the reverse, surrounded by a laurel wreath tied with a ribbon. The inscriptions "UNITED STATES OF AMERICA," "IN GOD WE TRUST" and "ONE DOLLAR" accompany the image.
Sensational Mint State 63 Silver Dollar
This 1879 Morgan Silver Dollar coin was submitted to the Professional Coin Grading Service (PCGS) for authentication and review. For its sharp strike, outstanding amount of original Mint luster and spectacular eye appeal, the silver dollar was awarded the superb grade of Mint State 63. The coin is housed in a sonically sealed protective holder with a PCGS certification label.
