Patriotic Liberty Design by George T. Morgan

Obverse: Both the obverse and reverse designs were created by George T. Morgan. His obverse design depicts Liberty in left-side profile wearing a Phrygian cap. His selection of an American-style model, Anna Willess Williams, distinguished this Liberty design from all of the previous ones, which used Greek-style figures. Along the rim are thirteen stars and the inscriptions "E PLURIBUS UNUM" and "1879."

Reverse: An open wreath partially encircles an eagle, which holds arrows and an olive branch, on the reverse. Between the bird's outstretched wings is the national motto, "IN GOD WE TRUST." "UNITED STATES OF AMERICA" and "ONE DOLLAR" are inscribed along the rim. George T. Morgan was the seventh Chief Engraver of the United States Mint. Though he was a prolific coin and medal designer, none of his other works come close to the fame of the Silver Dollar that bears his name.

Well Preserved MS65

This coin earned a Mint State 65 grade from the experts at Numismatic Guaranty Company (NGC). That grade means that the coin was struck well and has moderate hairlines or marks.
