Why add the 1879 Morgan Silver Dollar NGC Mint State 64 to your collection?

Numismatic Guaranty Corporation (NGC) graded this 1879 Morgan Silver Dollar at the solidly collectible Mint State 64 level. Morgan Dollars are one of the most popular and collected series in all of American Numismatics. They were first struck in 1878 though 1904 and again in 1921. The series was struck on 90% fine silver planchets and contain .7734 oz. actual silver weight. This coin was struck at the Philadelphia branch of the U.S. Mint.

Iconic design from an Iconic series

George T. Morgan, an English engraver and immigrant was the designer of the most collected silver dollar series in the United States. He ultimately became the Seventh Chief Engraver of the U.S. Mint in 1917. The obverse depicts the allegorical Liberty in profile, as modeled by Miss Anna Williams, a Philadelphia school teacher. The reverse image is a heraldic eagle, surrounded by a laurel wreath.

Lovely Mint State 64 example

Mint State 64 coins are characterized by good strikes and excellent mint luster. There may be some small contact marks, in addition to one or two moderately heavy marks. There may be light scuffing or defects may be within the design details or in the fields. Overall this is a high-quality grade with very good eye appeal.
