Why buy this Morgan Silver 1878-S Dollar?
This 1878-S Morgan Silver Dollar comes from the first year of issue of this renowned coin. This piece was one of nearly 10 million struck in San Francisco that year, each one bearing the Mint’s “S” Mint mark.
Who designed the Morgan Silver Dollar and what does it represent?
This Silver Morgan Dollar gets its name from the man who designed it, George T. Morgan. His obverse design marked a change from previous coins in that its depiction of Liberty is American rather than Greek thanks to his use of Anna Willess Williams as his model. On the reverse is the national bird, an eagle, with its wings spread upward.
What does Mint State 64 from the Numismatic Guaranty Corporation mean?
The Numismatic Guaranty Corporation (NGC) gives a coin a grade of Mint State 64 when it has a strike that is average or above average and several obvious marks and hairlines, as well as other minor imperfections.
