Why add the 1878-S Morgan Silver Dollar Hot 50 PCGS MS62 VAM-6 Doubled RIB California to your collection?
This attributed VAM-6 Doubled RIB 1878-S Morgan Silver Dollar has earned the coveted collector grade of Mint State 62 (MS62) from Professional Coin Grading Service (PCGS). This is a Hot 50 Morgan VAM and a Top 30 1878-S Morgan Variety. It was struck at the legendary San Francisco U.S. Mint facility. The coin has .7734 oz. of silver bullion and was struck on a .900 fine planchet. It also has the pedigree of one of the best collections of Morgan Dollars ever assembled, the California Collection.
Departure in Liberty depiction
The portrait of Liberty's face is shown on the obverse of Morgan Dollars, instead of the traditional depiction previously featured on the Seated Liberty Dollar. On the reverse is the symbol of American might and strength, the Bald Eagle appears. He is depicted in an aggressive stance, appearing to make himself appear larger with his wings spread. George Morgan undertook this design job as his first U.S. Mint assignment.
Nice MS62 example with VAM attribution
This MS62 grade means that the coin exhibits excellent design details with no wear on the coin. The VAM-6 for this issue is characterized by doubling on the obverse motto and engraving lines on the eagle's wing on the reverse.
