Created by George T. Morgan, the obverse bears a left-facing portrait of Liberty wearing a Phrygian cap.

The reverse of the Morgan Silver Dollar features a single American eagle clasping an olive branch and cluster of arrows. This design is reminiscent of the Great Seal of the United States. The design also includes inscriptions that read, "UNITED STATES OF AMERICA," "ONE DOLLAR" and "IN GOD WE TRUST" along with the Mintmark "CC" for the Carson City Mint.
