Striking Liberty Design by James Longacre

Obverse: Like the reverse, the obverse was designed by James Longacre. Liberty faces left wearing a coronet that bears an inscription of her name. Rim inscriptions provide the name of the issuing country, "UNITED STATES OF AMERICA," and the date, "1874."

Reverse: On the reverse, the Roman numeral "III" is inscribed in large font at the center. That indicates the face value, which is 3 cents. This is encircled by a wreath that has a bow at the bottom.
