Why purchase a Liberty Head Gold Eagle struck 1866-1907?

The Liberty Head Gold Eagle was introduced in 1838 by the United States Mint, designed by Christian Gobrecht, the Mint's third Chief Engraver. Over the course of the series, minor design modifications were made, including the appearance of Liberty's neck and ear, the location of her coronet in relation to a star, and size of lettering. The most significant, and final alteration was the addition of the motto "IN GOD WE TRUST" to the reverse in 1866, which remained on the coin until the conclusion of the series in 1907. The $10 face value coins were struck at the Mints in Philadelphia, New Orleans, San Francisco, Carson City and Denver from 0.48375 Troy oz. of .900 fine gold measuring 27 mm diameter.

Magnificent Lady Liberty

The left-facing portrait of Lady Liberty adorns the obverse, wearing a coronet inscribed "LIBERTY." The image is surrounded by a beaded border, thirteen stars and the date.

The reverse features a heraldic eagle grasping three arrows and an olive branch. Inscriptions include "IN GOD WE TRUST," "UNITED STATES OF AMERICA" and "TEN D."

Extremely Fine Gold Coin

This American $10 Liberty Head Gold Eagle with Motto, dated 1866-1907, is in Extremely Fine (XF) condition. Light wear is evident on the highest points of the coin due to circulation, with some traces of original mint luster remaining. All lettering and design details of the coin are clear and sharp.
