Powerful Union Shield Design by James Longacre

Obverse: Dominating the obverse is a union shield. Above is a ribbon that bears the inscription "IN GOD WE TRUST." The date, "1865," is included at the bottom of this face.

Reverse: The coin's face value, "2 CENTS," is inscribed in the middle of the reverse. It is encircled by a wreath. "UNITED STATES OF AMERICA" arches over this design along the rim.
