Why buy this Mint State 63 1859 Switzerland Zurich Silver Shooting Thaler?

Today, Swiss shooting thalers are known for their low mintage figures and aesthetic designs. However, these coins have quite a long history. This silver shooting thaler was issued in 1859 for the shooting festival held in Zurich. There were 6,000 of these struck. However, given the age of this coin that figure is more of a general reference than a hard number.

Detailed Shooting Design

The obverse of this silver coin depicts a lone man with his gun. He is standing just in front of a small group of rocks. The date of issue can be seen below his feet.

The design on the reverse references the location of the festival. This is also where the face value can be found. The central area of the design shows a pair of lions with a Swiss shield.

Certified Mint State 63 by NGC

The Numismatic Guaranty Corporation (NGC) was selected to grade this shooting thaler. It received a grade in the uncirculated range, Mint State 63. This specimen has some imperfections, but they are few and minor. Considering its age, this grade is excellent.
