Why purchase this $1 Gold 1855 Indian Princess?

This 1855 Indian Princess Gold Dollar comes from the second of just two issues of the Type 2 variety. Many of these coins were melted down shortly after they were issued, so this AU58 coin is a great option. Just 758,269 pieces were struck in Philadelphia in 1855, all of them from 1.67 g of .900 fine gold.

Iconic Indian Princess Design by James Longacre

James Longacre designed both faces of the Type 2 Gold Dollar. He designed the obverse off of Venus Accroupie, a marble sculpture that was on display in Philadelphia. He depicts the figure in left-side profile wearing a feathered headdress that is similar to those worn by some Native American tribes. "UNITED STATES OF AMERICA" is inscribed along the rim.

Longacre's reverse design is centered upon a pair of inscriptions, the face value, "1 DOLLAR," and date, "1855." They are encircled by a wreath of corn, cotton, tobacco, and wheat.

Well Maintained AU58

The experts at Numismatic Guaranty Corporation (NGC) certified that this coin is in Almost Uncirculated 58 condition. That means that it has no wear outside of its highest points and retains full details.
