Historic Indian Head Design

Obverse: Liberty faces left on the obverse. She wears a coronet, and her hair is held back in a bun. Her effigy is encircled by thirteen stars, which represent the original states.

Reverse: At the center of the reverse are inscriptions of the coin's face value, "1 DOLLAR," and date, "1853." They are encircled by a simple wreath. "UNITED STATES OF AMERICA" arches over the image along the rim.
