Why Order This MS62 BN 1840 Small Date Braided Hair Cent N-12 from the Jules Reiver Collection?

The Braided Hair Cent was one type of large cent that was issued by the U.S. Mint for circulation. It was actually the final kind of large cent to be issued before the introduction of small cents. The Braided Hair Cent offered here was struck at the Philadelphia Mint in 1840. There were 2,462,700 of these minted. However, this specimen displays die variety N-12 and was also a part of the very impressive Jules Reiver Collection.

Classic Braided Hair Liberty Design

The obverse of this classic U.S. coin features a detailed portrait of Liberty. She is facing the left and can be seen with shoulder length hair and a crown. The date is just below Liberty's neck and 13 stars form a visual border for the design.

The face value is displayed on the reverse at the center of the design. This side is also inscribed with the words "UNITED STATES OF AMERICA."

NGC MS62 BN

When this coin was submitted to the Numismatic Guaranty Corporation, it was assigned the grade of Mint State 62 and the BN designation. The grade of Mint State 62 indicates this specimen is in uncirculated condition. The BN designation was given because this coin has developed a choice brown patina with age.
