Why add the 1837 Classic Head $2.50 Gold Quarter Eagles NGC XF45 to your collection?

This 1837 Classic Head $2.5 Gold Quarter Eagle Coin was graded by Numismatic Guaranty Corporation (NGC) at the solid Extremely Fine45 (XF45) level. Collectors are aware that coins from the Mid-19th Century in this condition with a straight grade can sometimes be tough to find. The "Classic Head" Gold Quarter Eagle series was designed by William Kneass, the Second Chief Engraver of the United States Mint.

  • The coin was struck at the Philadelphia Branch of the U.S. Mint
  • This issue has a mintage of 45,080 coins.
  • The series was struck on .900 pure gold planchets containing 4.18 grams of gold bullion.
  • NCG census shows only 45 examples graded at this level as of 11/24/2020.

Classic Mid 19th Century U.S. Design

Obverse: The obverse features the iconic image of Lady Liberty. She is depicted wearing an inscribed ribbon that holds back her curly shoulder-length hair. Her portrait is circled by thirteen stars while the date appears below the image.

Reverse: A Heraldic Eagle is featured on the reverse. The denomination "$2 1/2 D." and the inscription "United States of America" encircles the eagle.

Great Condition XF45

Extremely Fine 45 (XF45) coins have some apparent wear on the highest points of the design. Overall, examples in the XF45 grade will have more eye appeal and more attractive surfaces than their lower graded counterparts. They will retain most of the design details.
