Why buy this 1807 American Draped Bust Large Fractional Cent?

The Draped Bust Cent was just the third one cent coin in American history. This 1807 piece comes from the final year of its issue. There are several varieties of this coin because there are six known die marriages among the mintage of 829,221 pieces struck. Each one was struck from 10.89 g of copper at the Philadelphia Mint. This piece is in Almost Good 3 condition, which means that most of its letters and digits are legible.

Historic Draped Bust Design by Robert Scot

Both faces of this coin bear the designs of Robert Scot. On the obverse is a right-side portrait of Liberty in which her long hair falls down over the back of her neck. The young figure appears proud and confident. A ribbon is tied up behind her head, and there is drapery at her neckline. Her name, "LIBERTY," is inscribed above the effigy, while the date, "1807," is inscribed below it.

On the reverse, the coin's face value, "ONE CENT," is encircled by a wreath made from two olive branches tied together with a bow. Below is a fractional representation of the coin's face value, "1/100," which is in large font. "UNITED STATES OF AMERICA" spreads throughout the rest of the rim.
