Why purchase this 1803 Draped Bust Large Eagle Silver Half Dollar coin?
The Draped Bust series was the second half dollar denomination series to be issued by the U.S. Mint. The series was originally introduced in 1796, but only struck for two years with a "small eagle" reverse design. The series returned in 1801, to be minted through 1807, with a newly designed large heraldic eagle on the reverse. The Draped Bust image is one of the most well-known designs of sculptor Robert Scot. Mr. Scot was appointed the Mint's first Chief Engraver in November 1793.
Classic Draped Bust Design

Reverse: The reverse depicts a heraldic eagle behind a shield, with thirteen stars and a row of clouds above. The eagle is grasping an olive branch and arrows in its talons, with a scroll in its beak bearing the inscription "E PLURIBUS UNUM." "UNITED STATES OF AMERICA" encircles the image.
