Liberty Bust Likely by Gilbert Stuart

While the designer of this Draped Bust Dollar is not known for sure, most believe that it was Gilbert Stuart. The obverse features a right-side bust of Liberty. She is a young figure, and her long hair falls beautiful down past her shoulder. The word "LIBERTY" is inscribed above her image, and the year of issue, "1799," is inscribed below. Thirteen stars, seven on the left and six on the right, connect the inscriptions.

On the reverse is a design that is modeled off of the Great Seal of the United states. Guarding a union shield, an eagle spreads its wings widely. It grasps symbols of war and peace, arrows and an olive branch, in its talons. Thirteen stars arch over the birds head, a reference to the original states.

Extremely Fine 40 from the NGC

The Numismatic Guaranty Corporation (NGC) graded this piece Extremely Fine 40. This grade indicates that the details of the coin remain clear, but it has minor wear on most of the high points.
