Why buy this 2-Piece 1794-2019 Smithsonian America's First Silver Dollar Silver + Copper Proof Medal Set?

A copper coin struck to test the dies of America's first Silver Dollar is widely considered to be the world's most valuable coin, estimated to be worth over $20 million. It is the only copper example struck from those dies. Now, this set gives you the opportunity to own two pieces, one silver and one copper, that bear those original designs. This set, which is officially licensed by the Smithsonian Institution, is one of just 2,500 of its kind. The silver piece was struck from one ounce of .999 fine silver. Both medals were struck at England's Commonwealth Mint to commemorate the 225th anniversary of America's first Silver Dollar and bear the Smithsonian Sun Mint mark on the reverse.

Historic Flowing Hair Liberty Design by Robert Scot

The two medals share the same pair of designs, both of which were the creation of Robert Scot. Scot based his obverse design, which depicts Liberty with flowing hair, on the Libertas Americana, a medal that was given to solders who fought alongside General George Washington. The effigy is encircled by the inscriptions "LIBERTY" and "1794-2019," along with fifteen stars.

An eagle spreads its wings within a wreath of palm and olive branches on the reverse. The palm branches represent victory, while the olive ones stand for peace. "UNITED STATES OF AMERICA" is inscribed along the rim.

Flawless PF70 UC

Numismatic Guaranty Corporation (NGC) awarded these two pieces their highest grade, Proof 70, which means that they are in perfect condition as seen under 5x magnification. The grading company also certified them Ultra Cameo, which means that they exhibit particularly sharp contrasts between heavily frosted devices and deeply mirrored fields.
