Why purchase this 1 oz. Silver Medal struck in honor of the first President of the United States?
Following the success of the Bronze Presidential Medal series, the U.S. Mint has introduced a silver medal series of similar design, its first release a tribute to George Washington. The 40.60 mm diameter medal is struck from 1 Troy oz. of .999 fine silver with a satiny matte finish.
Distinctive Presidential Medal Design
The obverse design by Pierre Simon Duvivier depicts the right facing image of Washington, encircled by the inscription "GEORGE WASHINGTON PRESIDENT OF THE UNITED STATES" and "1789."
Featured on the reverse is a pair of hands clasped in a symbolic handshake of friendship between the U.S. government and the Native American nations, one wrist bare, the other adorned with a striped cuff ornamented with eagle buttons. The image created by John Reich includes a crossed peace pipe and tomahawk along with the inscription "PEACE AND FRIENDSHIP."
