Why Choose This Very Fine 25 1647 Netherlands Lion Dollar?

While today many don't consider its origin, the U.S. dollar actually had a number of predecessors. One of them was the Lion Daalder, which was a silver coin issued by the Netherlands. These coins are also referred to as Lion Dollars. This Lion Dollar was minted in 1647.

Classic Knight and Lion Designs

On the obverse a knight is depicted in a full suit of armor. A shield can also be seen here, it has a lion design on the front. An inscription borders the design and follows the edge of the coin.

The reverse features the lion design. Its tongue is out as it stands on its hind legs and moves its front legs through the air. This side also displays an inscription around the edge.
