Why purchase this 1643 Netherland Lion Daalder?

The Netherland Lion Daalder was struck from .750 fine silver from 1575-1713. The coin is recognized as America's first dollar, heavily circulated in Colonial America, brought to the New World by the Dutch settlers of New Amsterdam (New York).

Lion Daalder Design Inspired by the Netherlands Coat of Arms

One of two rampant lions from the Coat of Arms of Netherlands is featured on the reverse, facing towards the left, with the date "1643" inscribed above. The image is accompanied by the legends that translates to "Confidence in the Lord is not moved," inscribed as "CONFIDENS. DNO. NON. MOVETVR."

The obverse depicts a shield in the foreground, with the image of the rampant lion upon it. Behind it, a caped and helmeted Dutch knight appears, his head posed facing right. The image is encircled by the inscription "MO. ARG. PRO. CON FOE. BELG. TRA.," abbreviation for "New Silver Coins of the Belgian Confederation."

Graded by NGC to be Very Fine 30
