Why purchase this Ferdinand II 3 Kreuzer Silver coin?

Ferdinand II simultaneously held the titles of Holy Roman Emperor, King of Bohemia and King of Hungary from 1617-1637. Ferdinand's actions to suppress Protestantism and restore Catholicism as the only religion in the Empire served as the catalyst for the Thirty Years' War (1618-1648). The silver 3 Kreuzer coin of Ferdinand measures about 21 mm in diameter.

Dramatic Imperial Portrait

The right-facing image of Ferdinand II adorns the obverse, inscribed with the Latin abbreviation for "Ferdinand II, by the Grace of God, Emperor of the Romans, always August, King of Germany, Hungary, and Bohemia:" "FERDI II D G R I S A G H B REX."

The most common reverse features the Holy Roman Empire's double-headed Imperial Eagle, accompanied by the Coat of Arms of Austria and Burgundy. A Latin inscription surrounds the imagery, "ARCHID A D BVR C TY," which translates as "Archduke of Austria, Duke of Burgundy, Count of Tyrol," along with the year of release.
