Why add this Silver 3 Kreuzer coin of Ferdinand II to your collection?

Ruler of the Holy Roman Empire from 1619-1637 was Ferdinand II of the House of Habsburg. Ferdinand was a devout Catholic with a negative opinion of Protestantism; his intention to restore Catholicism as the only religion in the Empire instigated the Thirty Years' War. The silver 3 Kreuzer coin of Ferdinand measures about 21 mm in diameter, weighing about 1.6 grams.

Portrait of the Emperor

The obverse features the right facing laureate image of Ferdinand. Inscribed "FERDI II D G R I S A G H B REX," meaning "Ferdinand II, by the Grace of God, Emperor of the Romans, always August, King of Germany, Hungary, and Bohemia."

The symbol of the Holy Roman Empire, the Imperial Double-Headed Eagle, or a triple Coat of Arms will be depicted on the reverse, surrounded by the legend stating the year of issue and "ARCHID A D BVR C TY," which represents "Archduke of Austria, Duke of Burgundy, Count of Tyrol."
