Leopold I was King of Hungary, Croatia and Bohemia, as well as the ruler of the Holy Roman Empire from 1658 until his death in 1705. The duration of his rule is marked by years of conflict, including wars with the Ottoman Empire in the east and with his cousin Louis XIV of France in the west. The 3 Kreuzer Silver coin struck during the reign of Leopold I ranges in diameter from 19.5-22 mm, with a weight of approximately 1.5-1.7 grams.

Impressive Silver Kreuzer Design

A wreathed image of Leopold I is featured on the obverse, facing right, surrounded by the Latin legend "LEOPOLDVS.D.G.R.I.S.A.G.H.B.R." which translates as "Leopold, by the Grace of God, Emperor of the Romans, always August, King of Germany, Hungary, and Bohemia."

The reverse depicts the emblem of the Holy Roman Empire, a double headed eagle behind a shield with crown above, or the Habsburg coat of arms. Inscribed "ARCHID.AVS.DVX B.CO.TYR" which represents "Archduke of Austria, Duke of Burgundy, Count of Tyrol," and the year of issue.
