Why buy this New York 1622 Netherlands Silver Lion Dollar?

This 1622 Netherlands New York Silver Lion Dollar provides you with the chance to own a coin that played an important role in 17th century commerce. The Dutch daalder, as it was known, was frequently used not only in New York and other Dutch colonies but also circulated widely throughout the rest of the world thanks in large part to the trade by the Dutch East India Company. The coin weighs 27.63g and was struck from .7500 fine silver.

Iconic Lion Rampant Design

A knight stands with his legs covered by a shield on the obverse. On the shield is a symbol that has long been associated with the Netherlands, as well as Belgium, the lion rampant. The image is encircled by rim inscriptions that translate to "Silver money of the Province of the Netherlands."

Rim inscriptions on the reverse read, "CONFIDENS. DNO. NON. MOVETVR," which is a Latin abbreviation for "Who trusts in God is not moved." The inscription encircles a lion rampant standing alone.

Well Preserved VF

This coin was used in circulation, so its details are worn down. Many collectors appreciate the fact that it was used in commerce and has a history of its own. Numismatic Guaranty Corporation (NGC) certified that it is in Very Fine (VF) condition, which means that it retains moderate detail or more and has sharp letters and digits.
