Why add this 1616 Netherland 1LD struck in Overyssel to your collection?

The Lion Daalder, or leeuwendaalder, was first minted in the province of Holland in 1575, for use in increasing trade and export. Widely circulated in the American colonies, the coin influenced the course of American silver coinage, including the inspiration for the new country's currency, based on the "Dollar." This 1616 Lion Daalder was produced by the Mint in the Dutch province of Overyssel, struck from .750 fine silver.

Distinctive Patriotic Imagery

The reverse features a rampant lion facing left, representing one of the two lions depicted on the Coat of Arms of the Netherlands. The image is framed by the inscribed date "1616," as well as "CONFIDENS. DNO. NON. MOVETVR," (Confidence in the Lord is not moved).

A helmeted Dutch knight appears on the obverse, head turned to the right looking back over his shoulder, with a shield in the foreground. The shield is ornamented with a rampant lion, similar to the reverse. The image is surrounded by the inscription "MO. ARG. PRO. CON FOE. BELG. TRAN.," which represents "New Silver Coins of the Belgian Confederation."
