Why purchase this Medieval Austrian Silver 3 Kreuzer coin?

Minted in 1636 Prague, this impressive Silver 3 Kreuzer coin was struck for Ferdinand II, Holy Roman Emperor from 1619-1637. Ferdinand's negative opinion of Protestantism resulted in the Thirty Years' War, a religious conflict that concluded more than a decade after his death in 1637.

Beautifully Detailed Imagery

The laureate image of Ferdinand II, portrayed in a traditional high ruffled collar, is centered on the obverse, above the coin's face value "3." The Latin legend encircling the image translates as "Ferdinand II, by the Grace of God, Emperor of the Romans, always August, King of Germany, Hungary, and Bohemia."

The reverse features the Holy Roman Empire's crowned double-headed Imperial Eagle, with a buoy-shaped mark representing the Prague Mint below. Inscriptions include "1636" and the Latin abbreviation for "Archduke of Austria, Duke of Burgundy, Count of Tyrol."
