Why purchase this 1268-1413 Silver Grosso struck during the Italian Renaissance?

The Grosso was a dominant silver coin circulated within Venetian Republic and the surrounding regions during the period of the Renaissance, issued by the Republic's highest elected official, the Doge. The coin was struck from .985 fine silver, the highest purity minted coinage at the time. This coin measures 19-21 mm in diameter and weighs approximately 2.18 grams, struck 1268-1413.

Coinage of the Venetian Republic

The ruling Doge and Saint Mark, the patron saint of Venice, appear on the obverse, standing, facing forward, with a banner on a long staff between them. Inscriptions include "S. M. VENETI" (Saint Mark of Venice), the Doge's mane and title.

Christ is featured on the reverse, in a distinctly Byzantine style, seated on a decorated throne. Inscribed "IC IX" above, or "TIBI LAVS 3 GLORIA" in legend format.
