Why purchase this Uncirculated Silver Grosso of Venice, struck during the Italian Renaissance?

The Italian Renaissance brought prosperity to the Republic of Venice, leading to the introduction of a large penny struck from .985 fine silver called the Grosso. The coin was produced under the authority of the Doge (equivalent to Duke) of the Republic. Imagery of the 19-21 mm diameter coin remained unchanged throughout the duration of the series except for the name of the Doge inscribed on the obverse.

Impressively Detailed Design

The image of the ruling Doge receiving a heraldic banner from Saint Mark the Evangelist is framed by a beaded border on the obverse. Inscribe with the Doge's name and title, as well as "S. M. VENETI," which translates as "Saint Mark of Venice."

An intricately detailed image of Christ adorns the reverse. He is depicted seated on a high backed, ornate throne, with inscriptions "IC IX" or "TIBI LAVS 3 GLORIA."
