Classic President Franklin Roosevelt Design by John Sinnock
John Sinnock created both the obverse and reverse designs for these coins. On the obverse is a left-side portrait of President Franklin Roosevelt. He looks sober yet confident, just as one might have pictured him giving one of his famous fireside chats. Obverse inscriptions include the coin's year, "LIBERTY," and the national motto, "IN GOD WE TRUST."
Sinnock's reverse consists of a torch between an oak branch and an olive branch. The branches represent strength and peace, respectively, while the torch symbolizes freedom. "E PLURIBUS UNUM" (Latin for "From many, one") is inscribed across the design, while rim inscriptions offer the coin's country, "UNITED STATES OF AMERICA," and face value, "ONE DIME."
