Patriotic Designs by John Mercanti and Adolph Weinman
Obverse: The obverse design returned for the Silver Eagle series after appearing on the half dollar from 1916-1947. Designed by Adolph Weinman and known as the Walking Liberty, it features the morning sun emerging from beyond the horizon as Liberty carries laurel and oak branches in the foreground. Obverse inscriptions note her name, "LIBERTY," the national motto, "IN GOD WE TRUST," and the date, "2020." Adolph Weinman was a prominent sculptor and numismatic designer. His two best known works are the Walking Liberty half dollar and the Mercury dime.
Reverse: The reverse design was modelled off of the Great Seal of the United States by John Mercanti. Thirteen five-pointed stars represent the original states at the top, while an eagle guards a union shield below. "UNITED STATES OF AMERICA" arches over the image, and "1 OZ. FINE SILVER" and "ONE DOLLAR" are inscribed below. John Mercanti was the twelfth Chief Engraver of the United States Mint. Over his nearly four decades with the institution, he designed more coins and medals than anyone else in American history.
