Featuring Designs by Adolph Weinman and John Mercanti
Obverse: The obverse design was taken from Adolph Weinman's Walking Liberty half dollar. The morning sun rises to the left as Liberty carries laurel and oak branches, symbols of civilian and military honors, respectively. Her name, "LIBERTY," is inscribed on the top portion of the rim, while other obverse inscriptions include the national motto, "IN GOD WE TRUST," and the date, "2020." Adolph Weinman's best known works were the Mercury dime and the Walking Liberty half dollar. In addition to his numismatic work, he also created many sculptures, which continue to be displayed in many cities across America.
Reverse: On the reverse is an adaptation of the Great Seal of the United States that was designed by John Mercanti. Thirteen stars represent the original states above an eagle, which protects a union shield. The image is encircled by three rim inscriptions, "UNITED STATES OF AMERICA," "1 OZ. FINE SILVER," and "ONE DOLLAR." John Mercanti was the twelfth Chief Engraver of the United States Mint. His time in the post was just part of his tenure with the US Mint. Over the course of his 37 years with the institution, he designed more medals and coins than anyone else in its history.
