The Silver Peace Dollar Design 1 Troy oz. .999 Fine Silver Round
The Peace-Dollar-inspired design of the 1 troy oz. .999 fine silver round is a tribute coin to the ever popular American Peace Dollar that circulated during the first part of the early twentieth century. The original Peace Dollar design was created by the Italian-American sculptor Anthony de Francisci during a competition set forth by the Commission of Fine Arts to find a suitable image to express the ideals of freedom and peace following the end of World War I. Francisci migrated to the United States in 1905 and became a naturalized citizen during the year of 1913, after which he would begin to study under 3 of the world’s finest known coin designers – Hermon A. Macneil, James Earle Fraser, and Adolph A. Weinman. The inspiration from those three world class sculptors inspired de Francisci to come up with a design that exuded the great American spirit of the time and portrayed the virtuous ideals of intellectual speed, vigor, and vitality.
The obverse design of the coin is a goddess based likeness of Lady Liberty, using his wife as a composite model to capture the symbolism of American exceptionalism from something tangible. A tiara of spiked rays was gently placed upon the crown of Lady Liberty’s head to further depict her stance as symbol of power and inspiration. The reverse of the coin carries an American eagle, with wings tucked at its side, as it sits atop a mound facing the rising sun in the east. This silver peace dollar inspired round is manufactured out of .999 fine silver and has a weight of 1 troy oz.
