Why Buy This XF-UNC Random Date (1996-2001) Broadstruck Mint Error Lincoln Cent?
The Lincoln cent is one of the most widely collected coins today. This is a very long running series, they've been struck by the U.S. Mint for well over a century at this point. The first Lincoln cents were minted in 1909, the Lincoln cent replaced the Indian Head cent. The specimen offered here will have a random date between 1996 and 2001. Regardless of the date on the coin you receive, it will be a Mint error. This type of error is called broadstruck which is the result of a mechanical failure during the strike. Broadstruck mint errors occur when a coin is struck without a collar, the retaining ring that establishes the final diameter of a coin being struck. Without the collar to contain the planchet being struck, the coin will expand beyond the boundary of a typical coin, sometimes dramatically so.
- You will receive a Lincoln cent with a broadstruck error.
- The date could be from 1996-2001.
- The condition can range as well.
Familiar Lincoln Designs
Obverse: With this type of Mint error, the error is visible on both sides of the coin. The obverse shows a portrait of Abraham Lincoln. If you're looking for the date of your coin, it's located on this side in the right portion of the field.
Reverse: The face value is displayed on the reverse. During the possible range of dates your cent could be from, the Lincoln Memorial design was in use. This design was actually on the reverse of Lincoln cents from 1959 all the way through 2008.
