1995-W 10th Anniversary Gold and Silver Eagle Proof Set #1342

Like most great coinage an interesting convergence of circumstances that are unlikely to be repeated created this set. It was struck to note the beginning of Silver Eagle production at the West Point Mint and it was issued as a 10th Anniversary issue late in the year. Most eagle collectors had already purchased what they needed for their collections and only a few with foresight made the financial commitment necessary to step up and buy these sets after the fact. In short the coins came to market too late, they were too expensive and it was not obvious to everyone at the time that modern eagles would be collected by date and mint mark. This unique convergence of events created the Silver Eagle series' lone super coin that is twelve times rarer than the next strongest cameo proof.

The 1995-W enjoys dominance of the Proof Silver Eagle set that is absolute.
